Social/Emotional
To address students’ social needs, school site personnel have chosen to implement a social skills curriculum, Second Step. Second Step is a classroom-based, social-emotional learning curriculum that nurtures children's social-emotional competence and foundational learning skills. These skills include conflict resolution, empathy, positive self talk, focusing attention, and many more. This program is taught in the classroom by classroom teachers. The school counselor also addresses social emotional needs through guidance lessons and small groups.
Other social/emotional strategies students learn to use are zones of regulations, peace island, and mindfulness.
